Essentially, this is 78 minutes of an amateur actor trying his best to seizure convincingly. It is not art at all,It is an idiotic desire of maker to collect all the taboo"s in one place, to give it a horrific note with weird picture and sounds, and off course that there will be high-blown hipsters in public who will claim that this is remarkable masterpiece of "art". I made an account, just so I could warn people of how terrible this movie is. Exploitation. 'Begotten' frequently gets compared to 'Eraserhead' and 'Tetsuo', two movies I have a lot of time for. As such we must find total abandonment of medium, stripping everything down to just the barest of bones: black and white (no color, no grey), silent mouths (for this precedes language), and pure activity (as actions become allegory). Total loss of nerve. Living and breathing, entirely regardless of my interpretation, of my wants, or my needs in a film. This film is an attempt to shock the public and nothing else. The film, about the birth of a messiah who has seizures in the woods and is dragged around by lepers has the whole country laughing uncontrollably. The overall look of the film harks strongly of early silent films, with loose blobs of shadow predominating and copious simulated scratches and aging present in nearly every frame. And the work required to make achieve it must have been incredibly long and tedious (you don't just stick "Kodak Grainy Film" in your camera to get this look). Was this review helpful?

So often creation myths feel so abstracted, epic, cleaned-up or romanticized; to see it enacted in this film through bodies in such stark and often brutal ways is devastating.

I still don't know, it's more like opening up a window onto a world that exists elsewhere and just watching things happen.

If it wasn't for the brief summary on the tape's cover, then I would be completely at loss, and even that wasn't really much help. Pessimistic worldviews. Not that I am about to claim that I understand what the film's intentions are. Nothing goes on for on and on and on, and many times, due to the lighting effects, the editing, the grainy out-of-focus picture, and the blending of white with light and black with dark, you wonder if there is any image at all on the screen or if you are getting a bad reception.
