Set to compete against the popular Ford Fiesta as well as value alternatives like the Skoda Fabia and Kia Rio, the new i20 will be sold in the UK solely with a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 100PS.
But how does it live up to this advertising slogan?Well, it’s incredibly spacious for a start, plus it’s loaded with safety kit and other equipment, and it gets a whopping great big five-year, unlimited-mileage warranty to boot. The petrol versions we drove (the 84bhp 1.2-litre, and this 99bhp 1.4) felt gutless once out on the open road, and introducing any sort of steep incline only highlights the naturally-aspirated motor’s reedy 99lb ft of torque. The biggest stumbling block could be Hyundai’s reluctance to play the same game on PCP finance offers that many of the i20’s rivals do on a daily basis.
