A Queensland mother of three who was stabbed to death in front of two of her children has been identified as Karen Gilliland.Gilliland, 42, died and a 45-year-old man, believed to be her husband Nigel Gilliland, is under police guard in hospital following the incident in Rockhampton on Tuesday evening.Several of her friends have paid tribute by changing their Facebook profile pictures to an image of the White Ribbon for domestic violence awareness.Gilliland’s death from multiple stab wounds has shaken police.“It’s a horrific scene for all included, especially those children to see that happen to their mum,” Acting Inspector Luke Peachey told reporters on Wednesday.“We’ve been police officers for a number of years, and this is one of the worst things we’ve seen.Peachey said Gilliland “suffered some horrific wounds”.Two of the woman’s children witnessed the attack and neighbours say they saw them running from the house screaming, as the alleged offender fled on foot.Police arrived at the Brae Street address shortly after 6.30pm on Tuesday to find the woman had been stabbed multiple times.Police found Nigel Gilliland nearby after a short search.He was taken to hospital in a serious condition with self-inflicted injuries and is expected to have a second round of surgery on Wednesday.He is under police guard but has not been interviewed by detectives due to his condition.“We believe this person will be able to provide us with some assistance with regards to this investigation,” said Peachey.“And I might add, as are the police who attended, and the QAS officers.“It’s an absolutely tragic event that three children have lost their mother, that a father and mother have lost their daughter.“We want to pass our sincere condolences out to all those affected.“Rest assured, everything will be thrown at this investigation.”The victim of a suspected stabbing murder in Queensland has been identified as mum-of-three Karen Gilliland.A woman who was stabbed to death in front of two of her children in Queensland has been identified.A man is loaded into an ambulance with self inflicted injuries after a woman was fatally stabbed in Rockhampton.Queensland police have provided an update after a woman was found brutally stabbed to death in Rockhampton on Tuesday.
